Most of the employees spend more than 8 hours sitting behind their desks in an office setting whether it is at work or in a home office. An office chair and table are a must for working an office job. Usually, you use any office chair and desk your employer provides to you. Luckily there are some things you can do to improve your comfort, productivity and focus. These are a set of hacks that will help you make the best of your situation and boost your productivity.
Use These Office Chair Hacks To Relax At Work
Invest in a Better Chair
The first thing you should do if it is an option is to invest in a good chair. How to choose the best chair? Here are some tools to look to:
-Seat height should be adjustable you should be able to place your knees and hips at the same level.
-Backrest height: Lumbar support is very important. You can make sure you have good supoport for your back by raising or lowering the lumbar pad to align itself perfectly with the small of your spine.
-Arm support that is height and width adjustable.
-Headrest: even if not necessary, it can make the whole difference
Change Posture Frequently
When maintaining a single posture for the whole day, your body locks up. Even if the posture is ergonomic, the human body is made to move. That’s why you should shift your posture. Invest in a stool or footrest to list your feet. Adjust your armrest, lean further forward or back.
Use cushions as a bumper.
Make up for this deficit by using cushions to support your lumbar and pad the bottom of the chair. You’ll know you’re sitting at the right height by making sure that, with shoulders relaxed, your forearms run parallel to the table.
Do Stretches to Stay Limber
Even if you don’t feel it, sitting in a chair for a long time puts stress on your neck, shoulders, wrists, back, waist, and legs. The stress can come in the form of muscles relaxing more than it should or tightens a lot. To relax the muscles before it turns to a back pain, set up a schedule and do stretches once or twice a day. You can stretching while sitting, or while using the chair as a support, goes a long way.
Properly Adjust Lumbar Support
Most people are used to slouching. That’s why lumbar support feels weird at the beginning. If your chair doesn’t have a lumbar support as an office chair back support that you can adjust, consider a lumbar support pillow.
Practice Active Sitting
From time to time, use a yoga ball chair with no arms and no back to forcing yourself to keep balance. The lack of support forces your body to constantly make adjustment to your posture, strengthen your core and preventing locking up.
Raise Your Viewing Angle
A lot of neck pain comes from a wrong viewing angle on your computer. the screen is so low you end up looking too far down, and that stresses the muscles in your neck and upper back. Consider getting a laptop stand and an external keyboard and mouse to use. If you’re using a desktop computer, consider getting a monitor riser or monitor arm to lift the height of your screens so you have a better viewing angle.
At the end, always remember that your couch is not a desk. Always set up your workstation if you are working from home with a proper desk that could be your kitchen table and a proper chair. If you already have a chair hack it with those special tips. If not, consider getting an ergonomic one.
