"Make every room a living room" - Alexandra Stoddard.
The fastest way to grow intellectually and emotionally is to try something new. Moving beyond the familiar is in itself a journey of self-discovery and a motivational aspect towards more goal-oriented behaviors. However, embracing the unknown is best done through traveling.
Indeed, nothing can bring creativity into people's minds as much as visiting new places and experiencing different cultures. Interior designers understand very well that flying to new destinations can greatly inspire them at their work. They remember how many times when abroad, they became struck by the charm of the landscapes, the projects of famous artists, the drawings, the sketches, and the beautiful architectures there.Â
Their trips have helped them turning out the intangible into tangible, the imagination into fabrication, and the conception into accomplishment. Driven by the need for authentic interior ideas and immersive worlds of luxury, these experts have succeeded for decades in memorializing their adventures. By wandering the planet and discovering its various countries, they brought back into their clients' houses slices of travel experiences making their clients' homes more livable, more vibrant, and a lot more attractive.Â
Here are seven destinations that have inspired the interior design of houses.
1- Morroco
Mixing between the African and the Mediterranean cultures, the Moroccan style is simply unique. Besides the lanterns and patterns, traces of the bohemian decor are hidden behind every corner finding their way into the modern houses.
Vibrant colors are the centerpieces of the Moroccan style. Interiors take mainly blue, green, red, orange, and gold colors from the sublime nature of this country to incorporate them into the houses. Other defining elements are the fluid lines weaved into every room, sofa, blanket, poufs, and other decorative items. Ceramic tiles and mosaic art are used to cover the floors as well as the walls. Finally, this enigmatic, luxurious yet casual style is completed by mirrors with ornaments around them, fancy wood products and textiles, layered rugs with a pleasant texture, and low ground tables, seating’s, and chairs.
2-Egypt
Inspired by the vast history of Ancient Egypt with its desert sands, architectural monuments, multiple Gods, embellished coffins, and numerous sculptures, interior designers have translated this Egyptian identity into wonderful home designs. Starting with the colors, the walls of the houses are painted in gold, beige, and creamy colors, reflecting on the sand and sun there. The walls' neutral shades are filled with paintings of Cleopatra or other famous Gods. Influenced by symmetrical and geometrical shapes, the floors consist of mud plaster and ceramic tiles covered with Egyptian-themed rugs. Another decor feature is the grandeur that Egyptian rich kings loved to show. Thus, gold accents can be seen in handles, table legs, armchairs, painting borders, etc. As for the furniture, Egyptian mythology was transmitted through the furniture legs of cats or cobras, pillows with historical scriptures, and ancient Egyptian books on the shelves.
3-Turkey
A European and Asian country, home of the Roman, Ottoman, and Byzantine Empires, Turkey has always been a source of inspiration, bringing a blend of ancient and modern decors. The Turkish style is exotic, totally comfortable, and warm; Blue and white dominate the colors used. Even the tiles are painted in blue and sometimes turquoise rendering the place more cozy and relaxing. These delicate patterns go with sophisticated rugs influenced by the Persian designs. And what adds more charm to this elegant style are the copper pieces found abundantly in the Grand Bazaar and the old souks in Istanbul. Interiors have brought these copper bowls, pots, trays, utensils, and plates into their clients' homes, remodeling their rooms and spreading more elegance. Finally, it is impossible to finish a Turkish design style without Turkish chandeliers. These lamps are made of hand-cut multicolor glasses bringing luxury to every room.
4- Italy
Italian room decor is a way to live "la dolce vita". Combining the country's traditional art with the contemporary art reflects a classical blended style of elegance and flexibility. What characterizes the Italian style the most is the simplicity and the minimalism. Rather than buying many items, experts look for few but high-quality pieces, perfectly fabricated to bring chicness and glamour to each room. Besides that, experts pay attention to details making clever use of space, turning a small house into a large looking one by putting mirrors, using bright and light colors, creating hidden spaces, and introducing tall shelves that accommodate more items. Another recent technique is extending the kitchen into the modern living room by destroying inside walls and turning the modern Kitchen design into a place of relaxation and not only for cooking purposes.
5- India
A daring and exotic style, the Indian interior design is a mix of sophisticated looks with symmetrical and royal ones. Despite its complexity, this style gives a feeling of warmth viewing the professional combination of its textures, its colors, its furniture, its patterns, its textiles, and its hand-made crafts. Since India's weather is very hot, designers have used durable and heavy materials like marble and granite to do the flooring and to keep the heat to the lowest. Their craftsmen appreciate the beauty of nature and use solid and high-quality wood in fabricating furniture which adds a rustic and traditional aspect. (wood tables) What distinguishes the furniture, as well as the walls and sometimes the floors, are the bold and vibrant colors with striking backgrounds painted in dark colors. Along with the colors, experts introduce different kinds of patterns, especially the mandala motifs, on the walls, the pillows, the curtains, and the rugs, expressing Indian culture and spirituality.
6-Mexico
A blend of American influences, Spanish domination, and the Mayans as well as the Aztecs native tribes, the Mexican decor is simply a wonderful one. The scene starts with vivid colors such as orange and red and goes to less daring ones such as yellow and brown reflecting the color of the sandy beaches there. What adds more magic are the patterned tiles surrounded by white walls used in almost every room even on the bathroom walls. A famous tile shape is the terracotta tile that goes with any design spreading warmth. As for Mexican furniture, it is impacted by different cultures such as the old west, the Spanish civilization, and Tuscan heritage. Last but not least is the Talavera pottery, a famous Mexican creation introduced into almost every house in the form of plates, wall arts, ornaments, and tiles.
7- Japan
The Zen philosophy is at the core of the Japanese interior design ideas; A minimalistic perspective accompanied by a peaceful and harmonious natural living space. Thus, Japanese decor is all about open spaces with few pieces of funriture made of natural materials. A concept of simplicity shaped by order, organization, and natural beauty. Thus, experts keep their designs uncluttered starting with wood elements to build walls and floors mainly from Bamboo. Even doors are made of wood sliding back and forth which gives more space. As for the furniture, it is fabricated from wood and arranged in its proper place in a clean-lined and simple manner. Finally, adding plants gives a cultural touch and a magical greenery scene indoor and outdoor.Â
