Certain pieces have decorative capabilities and can be used to tie a living space together, making it look more cohesive. Curtains, paintings, and rugs are examples of these items. Carpets are the simplest to obtain and install because they do not require any wall drilling or installation assistance. However, selecting the right mat for your home can be difficult; you must consider the size, material, and style that complement the space. You don’t have to worry; we will share few tips that will allow you to choose the right mat for your house.
What to consider when buying a rug?
First and foremost, it is important to choose the areas where you wish to have carpets in. You really do not have to ponder; carpets fit well in every space of the house like the kitchen, dining area, bedroom, hallway, entrance and even the bathroom. Determining where you wish to place the carpet will help you identify the suitable shape and size.
Size and Shape of the rug:
It is crucial to discern the reason you are adding this mat to the area. Is it strictly for decoration? Do you wish to cover some unpleasant tiles or stains on the floor? Do you want to match the pattern with an existing one in the area?
Material and Style:
Putting the right rug material in each space is very important. Improper mat texture can actually worsen the overall appearance of the area and make cleaning a nightmare. Here are some textures to consider: Natural fibers, Synthetic Fibers, and Artificial Silk.
Natural fiber carpets are the sturdiest and can handle heavy duty without being torn. So ideally, you would place them in busy areas like the living area and the entrance. Additionally, these carpets can be stain-resisting and easily cleaned in case of any spills.
Synthetic Fibers usually have soft textures and come in different designs and colors however they are bit fragile and require changing every now and then. These are perfect to be put in the bedroom under the dressing table where you do not spend much time.
Artificial Silk is the cheapest among this category and it comes in different patterns allowing you to place them in different areas of the house, however not in the bathroom or kitchen because they trap moisture.
Choosing the right rug by the room:
Bathroom:
Usually for the bathroom, where you're mostly barefoot or in slippers you need ultra-soft and non-water absorbent mats to eliminate any risk of odors. Additionally, you should take into consideration your bathroom tiles design, if it is too flashy you will need a basic mat to contradict the view and vice versa.
Living room:
Without a rug, a living room appears almost empty. Aside from extending a layer of comfort, it also adds a rich element that can elevate your design to the next level. The material of the carpet must be sturdy and not fragile to not imprint footprints or constant stepping. As for color and design, you can choose a classy style or a flamboyant one depending on your liking. You can also match the color of the rug with your serving plates, coffee mugs, and coasters giving a harmonization look.
Bedroom:
For the bedroom, simple textures and designs in softer, more exotic materials are preferred. You should feel free to express your taste without going too crazy. It is important to note the bed design and to pair the suitable rug size to it.
It's inescapable that you'll end up with a dirtied rug at some point, so consider management and treatment before you buy any carpet and make sure to clean your carpets frequently and use essential oils that will preserve its integrity.
