Settling up in a new place and decorating it according to you and your spouse’s taste is a difficult task. But the most challenging part is to decide upon the type of lighting to be used.
A lot many interior designers have agreed that lighting changes the way the guests, or for that matter anyone, perceive a house. The effect of too dull or too bright lighting can be too hard on eyes and can do more harm than good. Thus, an incorrect choice of lighting can put all your efforts to make your house look beautiful in vain.

Though it’s difficult to decide upon the type of lighting one should go for, but a few tips on selection of the perfect lamps and bulbs can help you make the right decision:
The structure of your house plays a great role in deciding the type of lighting you should go for. Do you own a bungalow, a flat or an apartment? It is an important consideration because large places, like mansions and bungalows need much heavier lighting in comparison to that of the apartments. In houses with gardens and patios, bright yet sophisticated chandeliers give a rather decent effect instead of numerous bulbs that may seem to be a little over-crowded and uncoordinated.

The placement of lights is another factor that determines the kind of lights one should opt. You should decide as to whether you want to have the lights embedded in the false ceiling or you want them to be placed like drooping from the ceiling. In flats and apartments, LED lightbulbs embedded along the ceiling with color changing effects, give a mesmerizing effect and create a wonderful aura of a classy lifestyle.
The lighting of the house should go well with the color schemes. If you love dark tones and the same is reflected in your choice of paints for your house, leading to the tones of grey, purple, blue and black, then a bright lighting system along the walls is preferred to balance out the gloomy color scheme. But if you are more inclined towards the pink red tones of colors, a low tone lamp or some ceiling fans or led strip lights that embed glowing lights are enough to light up the whole place.
Well, the type of room matters when deciding for the kind of lighting to be used.
For instance, in a couple’s bedroom, a sound mix of lamps with yellowlight illuminating bulbs is sure to create a soothing romantic effect but for a kid’s bedroom/ bed design, the lights should be kept brighter. This is to ensure that there is enough to light up every surface of the room.
Rooms, such as library lounge or gyms, should have recessed lighting bulbs that turn on and off just by illuminating the spot where the person currently stands. The rest of the room decor can be kept dark, as preferred and only the spot where the light is turned on, remains illuminated.
Well, in general, it is always better to mix lights rather than go for the same effect throughout the house. You can very well merge the effect and keep some areas brighter like kitchen, patio, garden and lounge, while have the rooms like bedroom, private office and terrace on a much lighter and moderate level with a relaxing effect, so that one can focus and not get effected by the extra brightness of all those decorative chandeliers, pendant lights and lamps.

Whatever lighting you use for your house, you should not ignore the fact that no matter how much furniture you add or how much money you spend on the beautification of your house, if the choice of lighting is not right, no one will appreciate your efforts.
